This season we will explore the dominating presence of STORY in the lives of humans by way of two interlocking conceptual strands: the stories of Genesis and the archetypal structure of stories themselves. Season 8 is all about the power, intelligence, influence and structure of STORY.
The book of Genesis contains some of the most compelling and influential stories humans have ever told. These stories are neither history nor fiction, neither science nor fantasy. Rather, we find narrative and archetypal investigations into the very fabric of what it means to be a human in pursuit of God. These stories are a mirror, a reflector – a looking glass – that call us to find our story in these ancient ones, to see reflections of ourselves and glimpses of something beyond.
Drawing on the storytelling and archetypal work of Carl Jung, Lisa Cron, Robert McKee, Christopher Booker, Jonathan Gottschall along with fascinating findings from the fields of neuroscience, psychology, anthropology, evolutionary biology and theology, throughout the season we will examine how stories help us survive, find our identity, and change the world, for both good and ill. We will continually circle back to the way we shape stories and how our stories shape us.
