How They Work
Boomerang groups are a great way to not just meet people but to get to really know them. Combined with this is the chance to expand your spiritual journey in dialogue with others who have the same desire to grow. So it is the ideal situation to address real spirituality (which, at Nexus, is our attempt to become fully human – in line with the way God created us). We keep the groups to between 6 and 10 people and we meet weekly at someone’s home. This winter and spring we are offering two types of groups:
1. Monday evenings THIS GROUP IS FULL (6 weeks starting Feb. 12, 2018) So much of our faith journey depends on how we view two things – God and humanity. It is very difficult to move ahead in our faith with a skewed view of what God is really like and so many of us struggle with our view of God – we have so many questions and so many poor teachings around this. Also, we really struggle with what our true nature really is and how our faith might influence this. Using both Timothy Keller’s and Henri Nouwen’s books on these issues (“Prodigal God” and “Return of the Prodigal”) we will take a good look at this. Jesus was a master teacher. All you have to do is read his parables to understand the depth written into each of these stories. The “Prodigal Son” parable is full of challenges regarding our view of God and humanity. We will use Keller’s book and short DVD on this as well as introduce thinking from Henri Nouwen during open discussions on these valuable issues.
2. Thursdays (Feb. 1 to Apr. 2018) AS OF APRIL 10, 2018 THIS GROUP IS NOW CLOSED – This group follows-up on Brad’s teaching from the previous Sunday. As you may have discovered, Brad’s teachings are meant to be “jumping off points” for discussion and learning. This group is focused on questions and discussion that flow naturally out of Sunday’s teaching. Prior to each meeting you will receive a list of questions based on the teaching and of course we are open to any question(s) you may have personally. Every week is a lively discussion that offers many opportunities to learn and grow.
